Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Leh on a two-day visit on 30 April, during which he will pay respects to the holy relics of Lord Buddha on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

In a post on X on Sunday, Ladakh Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said, “It gives me great pleasure in sharing that Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah ji will be arriving in Leh on 30th April on a two-day visit.

“On 1st May, he will pay his respects to the holy relics of Lord Buddha on the occasion of Buddha Purnima and share his thoughts on the spiritual significance of the sacred exposition being held in Ladakh from 1 to 14 May”.

“His visit underscores the commitment of the Government of India to the development of Ladakh”, Saxena added.

Meanwhile, Saxena reviewed preparations for the historic exposition of the holy relics of Tathagata Buddha.

The sacred relics of Lord Buddha are being brought from New Delhi for public exposition. From 1 to 14 May, people will have the rare opportunity to view these holy relics

This is the first time in India that the relics are being taken out of their secure preservation site for a special exhibition, though they have been displayed abroad before

Devotees from India and other Buddhist countries will participate.

The LG reviewed arrangements for a traditional welcome. People in traditional attire will line the route from the airport to Jivetsal on April 29 — the day the sacred Buddha relics arrive — and up to Sengge Namgyal Chowk on April 30, in view of the arrival of dignitaries.

He reiterated that the sacred exposition is a momentous occasion for Ladakh and the global Buddhist community. He directed all departments to work in close coordination and mission mode to ensure the event is conducted in a smooth, organised, and dignified manner, reflecting Ladakh’s rich spiritual heritage and hospitality.
